Why smaller games at PC Gaming Show 2025 matter

I feel like many players watch the big reveals and skip the quieter stuff. Truth be told, that habit often hides the best discoveries. PC Gaming Show 2025 brought several smaller projects that did not dominate headlines but still delivered fresh ideas. If you want a deeper look at how the event shapes the industry, you can also check my breakdown of why the PC Gaming Show Most Wanted list really matters. I want to spotlight a few of these quieter games so you can track them early.

Night Swarm brings fast roguelike action

Night Swarm showed real confidence during the showcase. It leans into top-down bullet-heaven chaos and rewards quick reactions. PC Gamer highlighted it in the official roundup, and it already offers a playable version on Steam. If you enjoy short, intense runs, Night Swarm deserves a spot on your wishlist.

SOL Shogunate mixes samurai culture with sci fi

SOL Shogunate caught my eye with its mix of samurai imagery and space opera elements. The reveal trailer offered stylized combat and a clear sense of identity. In my opinion, this genre blend could appeal to players tired of predictable formulas from bigger publishers.

Substructure creates a layered factory building experience

Substructure appeared during PC Gaming Show 2025 as a darker, moodier take on factory sims. You build above ground while uncovering a hidden world below the surface. That dual structure might interest strategy fans who want deeper systems without losing atmosphere.

Rogue Point adds heist humor to PvE FPS action

Rogue Point showed up with a lighthearted trailer that mixed FPS combat with chaotic heist planning. The tone felt playful, almost like the game wants you to break every rule during missions. If you want something less serious than the usual tactical shooters, Rogue Point looks promising.

Nutmeg turns football into a turn based card battle

Nutmeg surprised a lot of viewers. Instead of a real-time match, you play card duels that reflect the pace of football. It sounds odd, but it works. For players who love strategy more than twitch controls, Nutmeg offers a clever angle.

Why these games qualify as real under the radar picks

I feel like the biggest reason is simple. These titles skip massive budgets and chase interesting ideas instead. That usually means more risk and more personality. PC Gaming Show 2025 gave them a platform, but they still need early supporters who want something different. If you track these games now, you may find a new favorite long before the wider hype arrives.

How to follow hidden gems after PC Gaming Show 2025

Add them to your Steam wishlist. Developers update those pages often.

Check smaller gaming sites that cover indie announcements.

Watch for new demos during seasonal Steam festivals.

Look at how often studios post devlogs or community updates. Strong communication usually signals steady progress.

Final thoughts

In my opinion, the real magic of PC Gaming Show 2025 sits in these under the radar gems. They try new mechanics, new genres, and new styles without waiting for trends to validate them. If you want something fresh this year, start here.

The post The Most Exciting Hidden Games Revealed at PC Gaming Show 2025 first appeared on GamingFoundry.

So you heard the rumors? It’s real, Hytale early access has a date. As of November 28 2025 the developers at Hypixel Studios confirmed that Hytale will launch in Early Access on January 13 2026.

What “Hytale early access January 13 2026” means

When I say “early access”, I mean early. Hypixel went back to what they call a “legacy build”, the older version of the game they had before more ambitious engine rewrites by a previous publisher. That meant merging over 300 GitHub branches into a single playable build (yeah, that many).

Because of that history and rebuild, at launch, you should expect rough edges: bugs, placeholder content, unbalanced loot, and, in general, a rough but playable skeleton of what Hytale can become.

On the flip side, this gives modders, server owners and community creators an early shot at diving in, experimenting, building mods or custom servers, right from day one. The devs say creative/modding tools are “in a decent state” for that purpose.

Hytale pre order date and pricing explained

According to the announcement, for Hytale, pre-orders open on December 13 2025.

Pricing and editions vary. At least one report says the standard edition will cost around USD 19.99, with additional “supporter” or deluxe editions available, presumably offering cosmetic extras or “supporter” bonuses.

Why Hytale switched back to a legacy build

You might remember Hytale’s development was messy. The game changed hands. Under previous publisher (in recent years), engine rewrites, delays and cancellations piled up. Then earlier in 2025, developers reacquired Hytale and reclaimed control under Hypixel Studios again.

Now we’re getting a resurrected version with the original vision more or less intact, albeit on a stripped-down build. That means the “dream of Hytale”, the sandbox + RPG + creative/modding potential, might finally begin, even if it’s raw. I think this is a pragmatic, realistic restart.

For players, that means early adopters get to shape the game. Report bugs, give feedback, build mods, run servers, and contribute to what Hytale becomes. For watchers, it’s a chance to see if Hytale can rise from chaos, or fall again under weight of ambition and overdue polish.

What to expect from Hytale early access launch

Day-one will be rough. Don’t expect a polished game experience.

Core systems like exploration, building, combat are likely functional, but many systems (loot balance, polish, minigames) may be incomplete or rough.

Creative / modding tools will be available from start, high value for modders, server-owners, custom-content creators.

Over time, with community feedback and active development, Hytale has a shot at becoming much bigger than a “barebones early access”.

Who should pre-order (and who should wait)

If you love sandbox games, creative modding, building servers, and don’t mind bugs or unpolished features, pre-order early. Think of it like backing a Kickstarter: you want to shape the project from ground zero, not just consume a polished product.

If you expect something “done”, smooth, bug-free, wait. Use early access info and reviews from other players before buying. The team themselves admit this is “true early access”.

Final thoughts

I feel like January 13 2026 marks a new-chapter gamble for Hytale. It won’t hit day-one perfect, but it’s the earliest moment the community gets to dig in, mess around, maybe build the next big mod or server. For a project with this twisted history, that’s something.

If you ask me, prepare expectations for rough start, but keep hope. Hytale early access could be a messy beginning, or the foundation of something great. Either way, we’ll know soon enough.

The post Hytale early access returns with new hope first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like the whole HORSES banned from Steam situation is one of those rare indie stories that actually deserves attention. When a horror game about masked human horses gets blocked from the biggest PC storefront, you know something unusual happened. So here’s the short, useful version of what’s going on and why players are talking about it.

What is HORSES and why people talked about it

HORSES is a first person psychological horror game by Santa Ragione. The premise sounds simple at first. You spend two weeks working on a ranch. But instead of real horses, you’re surrounded by humans wearing horse masks who behave like livestock. It leans hard into discomfort, surreal symbolism and themes about power and exploitation.

The game was supposed to launch on December 2, 2025 on Epic Games Store, GOG, itch.io and Humble. Steam was not on that list. The reason is simple. HORSES banned from Steam became the headline long before the game even had a chance to open its store page.

Why HORSES was banned from Steam according to the developer

Santa Ragione submitted HORSES back in 2023. Right before the planned Steam reveal, Valve sent a short rejection notice. According to the developer, the message said the game contained themes or imagery Valve would not distribute. They got no details and no chance to appeal.

Valve’s automated policy references potential sexual content involving minors, even in unclear scenarios. Santa Ragione says no minors appear in the game and that HORSES is not pornographic. One early scene in a 2023 build included a child riding a masked adult. The team replaced the child with an adult woman, but Steam still rejected the game.

The frustrating part is that no one at Valve explained what part of the game still broke the rules. That leaves developers guessing, which feels like a bad system for anyone trying to create something unusual or symbolic. Part of why this turned into a story is that HORSES banned from Steam became a big example of how unclear content rules can punish indies who take creative risks.

How this Steam ban affects Santa Ragione and other indie devs

In my opinion, the toughest part of this whole situation is the financial hit. The studio invested around 100,000 USD into HORSES. Without Steam, which is still the biggest marketplace in PC gaming, the odds of recouping those costs drop a lot. The team said that if HORSES underperforms on the alternative stores, they may not survive as a studio.

And here’s the broader point. When a store as big as Steam can ban a game without explaining why, it creates a pretty dangerous precedent. Other devs might avoid serious themes, weird art styles or provocative symbolism just to stay safe. That slowly pushes indie games toward safer, more predictable ideas. It’s not great for players or for creativity.

Where you can still play HORSES

If you’re still curious, HORSES launches December 2 on Epic Games Store, GOG, itch.io and Humble Store. Steam is simply not an option unless Valve changes its stance, and that seems unlikely right now.

Truth be told, the HORSES banned from Steam story shows how fragile indie development can be when platform rules are vague or inconsistent. If you want to support unusual horror games or small teams who take creative risks, this might be one to keep an eye on. If you want a follow up piece on other games Steam has banned for similar reasons, I can draft that too.

The post HORSES banned from Steam – Valve leaves devs in the dark first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like every few years the gaming world gives us a comeback story we don’t see coming. If you’ve been following Hytale at all, you probably remember when I covered the collapse in “Hytale Canceled: The Most Hyped Indie Game That Never Happened.” Back then, the whole thing looked final. Riot stepped back, the ambitious cross-platform engine stalled, and the project went quiet long enough for most people to assume the worst.

So when the founders suddenly announced that Hytale development had resumed and that the game is fully independent again under Hypixel Studios, it feels surreal. But the facts are confirmed, and the roadmap finally makes sense in a way it hasn’t for years.

—

Hypixel Bought Hytale Back and Rebuilt the Team

The first big confirmation is that Hypixel’s co-founders reacquired Hytale from Riot Games and took it completely independent. Players who search “Hypixel reacquires Hytale” or “Hytale revival 2025” usually want to know if this is just a tiny shell team or the real deal. It’s real. Dozens of former developers are already rehired, and the team plans to keep expanding as the project ramps up.

Funding is personal now. The founders are backing the next decade of development themselves, which removes the corporate overhead and gives Hytale room to grow at a pace that makes sense for the game rather than a publisher’s calendar.

Truth be told, it’s the clearest indicator that this isn’t a symbolic revival. It’s a full return to the original vision for Hytale.

—

Why the Hytale Engine Change Matters

A lot of confusion around the project came from the long detour into a new cross-platform engine built in C++. That version aimed to support PC, consoles, and more, but it ballooned into a tech project that overshadowed actual gameplay development. In short, it was years away from delivering anything players could test.

The revival changes that entirely. The team confirmed they are returning to the Legacy Engine, the earlier C#/Java hybrid that powered the original world generation demos, early combat systems, and modding tools. Anyone searching “Hytale legacy engine” or “Hytale engine change” should know that this rollback is less of a step backward and more of a practical reset. The Legacy Engine is stable enough to ship content and flexible enough for modders, which makes it a crucial foundation for early access.

For players who remember the smooth animation sets, procedural zones, and creative tools shown years ago, this explains why those systems can finally move forward again.

—

What Hytale Early Access Actually Looks Like

The most common question is simple. “What will Hytale early access include?” The team has shared clear details, and they finally feel grounded.

Early access will launch on Windows first. Other platforms will be explored, but the initial priority is a stable PC build that focuses on core systems rather than stretching too thin.

Confirmed early access content includes:

Exploration Mode, the open-world sandbox design that first hooked players

Creative Mode, giving builders access to tools and asset editing right away

Full modding support from day one, with APIs and creation tools baked in

This early access build will be raw. Expect bugs, placeholder systems, unfinished biomes, and balance issues. The developers have been upfront about this, encouraging players to treat early access as a collaborative process rather than an almost-finished game. Anyone searching for “Hytale early access plans” or “Hytale early access expectations” will probably appreciate that honesty.

Adventure Mode and minigames will come later, once the foundation is stable. In my opinion, this phased approach is smarter than trying to cram everything into day one.

—

Modding Support and Custom Servers Return to the Spotlight

Modding was always the beating heart of Hytale’s identity. Searches like “Hytale modding support” and “Hytale custom servers” keep rising because the game originally promised an ecosystem built around creators, from animated NPC scripting to handcrafted worlds.

That vision is still intact. The team confirmed that modding is central to the game’s long-term health, not an optional extra. Tools for items, animations, world generation, and server-side logic are part of the early access plan. They even want to provide server source access in the future once they work through legal and technical hurdles.

For a sandbox game that hopes to survive for a decade, this is the most important piece. A strong modding pipeline means the community can experiment, build minigames, create adventures, and shape the world long before the official content catches up.

—

Why This Revival Actually Feels Realistic

You can look up “why Hytale development was resumed” and find a lot of speculation. The reality is much simpler. The founders still believe in the game, and they finally have both the legal freedom and the technical clarity to move ahead.

The switch back to the Legacy Engine cuts years off development time. Rehiring the original team restores continuity. The early access strategy grounds expectations. And putting modding at the center means the community can help define what Hytale becomes instead of waiting for perfect patches.

In my opinion, this is the first time since 2020 that the project feels like it has real momentum behind it.

—

Final Thoughts

Hytale development resumed, and the revival is more substantial than anyone expected. Hypixel reacquires Hytale, rebuilds the team, confirms the early access roadmap, returns to the legacy engine, and doubles down on modding support. If you followed the story all the way through cancellation and disappointment, this is probably the most hopeful update you’ve seen in years.

The post Hytale Comeback What the New Team Confirmed first appeared on GamingFoundry.

So Nintendo finally made a proper tool for checking Switch 2 compatibility. I feel like half the internet has been holding its breath, hoping their backlog wouldn’t turn into a museum.

This guide walks you through how to use the compatibility checker, which games are likely to run fine, why some titles misbehave, and the practical steps to transfer saves and purchases. If you’re upgrading, bookmark this. If you’re still deciding, read on.

How to Use the Official Switch 2 Compatibility Checker

Nintendo’s lookup page is the fastest way to verify Switch 2 compatibility for any title in your library. Type the name of your game, and it’ll show one of three statuses: supported, unsupported, or partially compatible.

Supported: works normally, saves transfer fine, and DLC runs as expected.

Partially compatible: the game launches but has some missing features (motion control, IR camera, etc.).

Unsupported: it won’t boot or has major issues.

If your favorite game sits in the middle category, don’t panic yet; developers can still push updates later.

Which Switch Games Work on Switch 2

Big first-party titles are mostly safe. Anything from Nintendo’s core lineup (Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, etc.) has already been tested and confirmed. Games that have received patches in the past few years also tend to show up as “supported” in the Switch 2 compatibility list.

Smaller indie titles, or early-era Switch releases, are less predictable. Some rely on quirks of the old hardware that just don’t translate to the new system. If you’re unsure, check each one manually. I know it’s tedious, but that’s the only reliable method right now.

Why Some Games Don’t Work on Switch 2

This isn’t some corporate conspiracy; it’s just how hardware evolves. The Switch 2 compatibility tool shows how different the new internals are. The upgraded Joy-Cons use updated sensors, the processor is faster, and certain timing tricks that older games depended on don’t behave the same way.

Games that used motion controls or camera inputs may need an update from the developers. Some will get patched soon; others, especially from smaller studios, probably won’t.

When Switch 2 Compatibility Improves Performance

Here’s the good part: for the games that do work, you might see smoother performance. Community reports already show noticeable frame-rate improvements and faster load times.

So yes, Switch 2 compatibility isn’t just about playing old games; it can actually make them better. You’ll likely see sharper visuals and more stable performance in titles that were previously struggling on the base Switch.

How to Move Saves and Purchases to Switch 2

Nintendo’s Switch 2 transfer guide is straightforward once you know where to look. Your digital purchases are tied to your Nintendo account, so you can just re-download them on the new console.

For saves, you’ve got two options:

Cloud saves through Nintendo Online – safest and easiest.

Local console transfer – best for physical-only players or if you’re skipping the cloud.

Physical cartridges still work as long as the game is listed as supported in the Switch 2 compatibility list, but you’ll need to download patches again for DLC or online content.

Troubleshooting Common Compatibility Issues

If a supposedly supported game crashes or shows input lag, try this:

Check for the latest patch or firmware update.

Test it with default Joy-Con settings.

Reinstall the game’s update data.

If a title is listed as partially compatible due to peripherals, try remapping inputs. Unsupported games are trickier; you’ll need to wait for a developer fix or keep using your old console.

Which Developers Are Updating Their Games

First-party Nintendo titles will always get attention. Ubisoft, Capcom, and Square Enix are already confirming patches for their major games.

Smaller developers might not have the resources, though. That’s why Switch 2 compatibility status could change over time. Keep checking the official list every few weeks.

If there’s a specific game you want fixed, reach out to the developer on social media. Public demand has already convinced some studios to prioritize updates.

What to Do Right Now

Before you upgrade, take ten minutes to:

Visit the official Switch 2 compatibility checker.

Test every title you actually plan to replay.

Move your most important saves.

Note any games listed as incompatible and contact their publishers.

This is your chance to make the jump without losing progress or your favorite weekend comfort games.

Switch 2 Compatibility FAQ

How do I check if my Switch games work on Switch 2?
Visit Nintendo’s official compatibility lookup page and search your game by title. It will show whether it’s supported, unsupported, or partially compatible.

Can I move my Switch saves to Switch 2?
Yes. Use the Switch 2 transfer guide or cloud saves. Some local saves may need a direct console transfer.

Will all Switch games get updated for Switch 2 compatibility?
No. Major titles probably will, but smaller or older games might stay incompatible.

Do Switch cartridges still work on Switch 2?
Many do, but not all. Check the Switch 2 compatibility list before assuming. DLC and online features may need new downloads.

Switch 2 Compatibility FAQ: Will Your Favorite Games Work and Can You Transfer Saves?

Will Elden Ring work on Switch 2?
FromSoftware hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but there’s been chatter about an Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition potentially landing on Switch 2. It’s not official, so take that with a grain of salt. That said, if the new hardware really is close to a PS4 Pro or Steam Deck in power, it’s not impossible. The bigger question is whether the devs think the audience is large enough to justify the port.

Can I move my Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom save file to Switch 2?
Nintendo hasn’t explained how saves will carry over yet. Most players assume cloud saves will still work through Nintendo Online, just like they do now. If that’s the case, your progress should come with you automatically. Physical users might need manual transfer tools, depending on how Nintendo handles local saves this time.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Switch 2?
No plans have been announced. CD Projekt RED never brought the game to the current Switch for obvious reasons, but with new hardware, it’s not out of the question. Still, it’s safer to expect no version confirmed until the devs or Nintendo say otherwise.

Will Call of Duty finally return to Nintendo with Switch 2?
Yes, at least that’s the plan. Microsoft made a public commitment to bring Call of Duty titles to Nintendo systems after the Activision Blizzard acquisition. It’s widely assumed that the Switch 2 will be the platform to make that happen. No release window yet, but this one’s more than rumor.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Switch 2?
Right now, Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, not on Switch. Larian Studios has said the current Switch isn’t powerful enough, but the Switch 2 might change that. There’s no official word, but given how well it runs on handheld PCs, it’s an easy “maybe later.”

Will Joy-Cons work on Switch 2?
Nintendo hasn’t confirmed hardware compatibility yet. Historically, they’ve tried to keep accessories somewhat forward-compatible, but the next-gen Joy-Cons could include upgraded rumble or wireless tech. So while they might work, expect small changes or at least a new revision.

Will Monster Hunter Wilds release on Switch 2?
Capcom confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but not for any Nintendo console so far. Given how huge Monster Hunter Rise was on Switch, a port after launch seems likely, though nothing’s official yet.

Can I play my digital Switch library on Switch 2?
Nintendo hasn’t made any promises about full backward compatibility, but it would be a PR disaster if they didn’t allow digital carry-over. The safest bet is that your purchases will stay linked to your Nintendo Account, though older cartridges might need a software patch to work properly.

Will Mario Kart 9 run on Switch 2?
Nintendo hasn’t announced Mario Kart 9 yet, so no official word on Switch 2 compatibility. If it releases in the future, it’s safe to assume the game will be fully supported given Nintendo’s history with first-party titles.

Can I carry over Animal Crossing: New Horizons saves to Switch 2?
Official transfer methods haven’t been confirmed, but cloud saves via Nintendo Online should work. Local saves may require a direct console-to-console transfer, similar to current Switch migrations.

Is Metroid Prime 4 confirmed for Switch 2?
No official announcement yet. Development is ongoing, and a Switch 2 release is possible, but Nintendo hasn’t confirmed a date or compatibility details.

Will Pokémon Scarlet and Violet work on Switch 2 without updates?
These games are expected to run, but patches may be required for full performance optimization. Nintendo’s compatibility checker will clarify which features might need updates.

Can I use my current Switch controllers on Switch 2?
Likely, but not guaranteed. Historically, Nintendo maintains accessory compatibility, but new features like upgraded HD Rumble or motion controls may require updated Joy-Cons.

Are DLCs from old Switch games compatible on Switch 2?
Generally yes, if the base game is listed as supported in the Switch 2 compatibility list. DLC may require re-downloads or patches for proper functionality.

Will Smash Bros Ultimate be fully supported on Switch 2?
Almost certainly, given it’s a major first-party Nintendo title. Expect full support for gameplay, online features, and DLC, though performance improvements are possible.

Can I play my digital indie games library on Switch 2?
If the games are listed as supported in the Switch 2 compatibility list, yes. Older or niche indie titles may have issues if they relied on hardware quirks of the original Switch.

Will Splatoon 3 performance improve on Switch 2?
Supported titles often benefit from faster hardware. Splatoon 3 may see smoother framerates, quicker loading, and more stable online performance, depending on patches.

Are Nintendo eShop purchases transferable to Switch 2?
Yes, your purchases are tied to your Nintendo Account. You should be able to re-download all compatible games, though some titles may require patches or updates.

Do retro Virtual Console games run on Switch 2?
Most should, especially if they’re included in the Nintendo Switch Online library. Compatibility will depend on Nintendo’s emulation framework for Switch 2.

Will third-party AAA titles like Assassin’s Creed work on Switch 2?
Some third-party AAA games may require optimization for Switch 2. Check the official compatibility list for each title, as older ports may not run without patches.

Can I share my Switch 2 game library with multiple consoles?
Yes, through Nintendo’s account system. Digital games can typically be shared, but simultaneous play may be restricted depending on licensing.

Will The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild run better on Switch 2?
Yes, it’s confirmed that most first‐party Switch games (including Zelda titles) are supported on Switch 2, and performance improvements (frame rate, load times) are expected.

Will Super Mario Odyssey work on Switch 2 without a patch?
It’s listed as compatible, but a patch may still optimise features like motion controls or HDR output. Always check the official Switch 2 compatibility list before assuming “no update needed.”

Will Super Smash Bros. Ultimate get enhanced graphics on Switch 2?
The game is compatible, and we already have reports of bug‑fix patches for Switch 2. Whether full “enhanced version” is coming remains unannounced, but performance boosts are plausible.

Can I use my original Joy‑Con controllers for Ring Fit Adventure on Switch 2?
Yes, but caution: games that rely on IR camera, motion sensors or special accessories may need original Joy‑Cons. Some games (like Ring Fit) might run only with first generation controllers even on Switch 2.

Will Mario Kart 8 Deluxe support 60fps on Switch 2?
While no official promise yet, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a high‑profile title with full compatibility. Given the power bump in Switch 2, 60fps is a realistic expectation, keep watch for updates.

Does Pokémon Sword & Shield work seamlessly on Switch 2?
Yes, the base games run (Switch 2 supports most first‑party titles), but any online integration, DLC or future content may benefit from a Switch 2 patch to ensure “seamless”.

Will Splatoon 3 benefit from Switch 2 compatibility and run smoother?
Absolutely possible. It’s supported, and players expect that popular multiplayer games will be optimised for the newer hardware to maintain competitive performance.

Can my Smash Fighters DLC from the original Switch carry over to Switch 2?
Yes, if Nintendo supports the game (as it does with Smash Ultimate), your DLC and online profile will migrate through your Nintendo Account. Always double-check the compatibility status.

Is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom safe to play on Switch 2 from day one?
Yes, Nintendo includes it in the compatibility list as a major first‑party IP, but developers may release patch notes to further polish performance or fix hardware‑specific issues on Switch 2.

Final Thoughts

For me, the launch of the Switch 2 compatibility tool feels like Nintendo finally acknowledging how important the existing Switch library really is. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest, and that’s more than we usually get.

My advice? Check your games early, move your saves, and keep that compatibility page bookmarked. Chances are, your old favorites will look and run better than ever.

Okay, so No Man’s Sky has done it again. The team at Hello Games just launched Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead, and yeah, it matters. It’s free, it’s time-limited, and it’s your shot at adding the coveted SSV Normandy SR1 to your collection if you haven’t already.

What Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead actually is

This redux run isn’t something entirely new. It’s essentially a rerun of the original Beachhead expedition, but tweaked for the holiday schedule. You jump into an expedition mode, work through milestones, and as a big reward you get the Normandy SR1. That makes it the go-to mode for how to get Normandy in No Man’s Sky. Official info from Hello Games confirms the holiday expedition lineup lists Beachhead (7 Nov – 18 Nov 2025) for this very reward.

Dates & schedule

Beachhead Redux runs 7 November – 18 November 2025.

How to start Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead

Load your game and go to the Space Anomaly. (Here is how)

Select the “Community Expeditions” (or simply “Expedition”) menu.

Choose Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead.

Pick a loadout and dive in. Once you start the expedition you’ll follow the milestone chain toward the Normandy.

What you’ll be doing

During the expedition you’ll:

Explore flagged systems and worlds specially designated for the event.

Complete milestone objectives (scanning, building, exploring).

Claim rewards at each milestone.
Because it’s a redux, the order or number of objectives may differ slightly from the original run.

Pro Tips for Beachhead

Read the milestone list before you start.

Pay attention to milestones’ reward text. Many rewards hint at the next tasks. In other words: claim a milestone, read what you got, then plan for the next one.

You don’t need high-end gear from your main save. Good news if you’ve skipped earlier runs.

For the “Uncharted” milestone (discovering new systems): using a black hole or going off the beaten path helps a lot. Example: “Another tip for the Uncharted mission – go to the Anomaly and get black hole coordinates from Polo. That way you can go immediately to a random part of the galaxy and you’ll almost certainly be within a jump or two of uncharted space.” That beats wandering the usual warp lanes.

For milestones involving frigate missions: you can exploit it. Send your default frigate on the shortest Expedition you can, then go to your command room and recall the Expedition and debrief the frigate. Rinse and repeat x3. Time-efficient workaround (if you’re okay with using it).

If you get stuck fishing on the “Icy Veins” milestone: warp to the second rendezvous system (if the starting system lacks a valid ice planet). And craft bait to speed catch-ups.

On the starter system, talk to multiple NPCs in the space station early (for “Linguaphile” milestone).

If you’re prepping: bring (or make sure you have) wiring looms, magnetic resonators, amino chamber, and a decent reserve of basics like Chromatic Metal, Ferrite Dust & Condensed Carbon. Even if you don’t need top gear, these help smooth things.

Before you claim the final reward, transfer what you care about from the expedition back to your main save. Good habit: don’t lose items you meant to keep.

Rewards you care about

The main draw here is the Normandy SR1. If you already own it, you’ll still pick up a few extras along the way, cosmetic items, decals, and event-specific ship parts. To get the Normandy, all you need to do is finish the expedition milestones before the event ends and claim the reward once it unlocks.

Technical fixes and improvements

Though the focus here is the expedition itself, the update surrounding this redux includes quality-of-life improvements: better expedition tracking in the UI, tweaks to ship-building systems, updated visuals for holiday-themed systems. The devs quietly rolled in these improvements alongside the expedition announcement.

If you’re chasing the core of the galaxy

And yes, while you’re smashing through Beachhead, don’t forget about your other goal: reaching the galactic core. If you want the ultimate telemetry on how to get there fast, check out my article on the Fastest Way to the Galactic Core. Beachhead is a fun detour, but if your long game is hitting the centre, you’ll want that guide.

TL;DR

Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead is live from 7 Nov to 18 Nov 2025 and offers the Normandy SR1 as reward.

Start via the Anomaly → pick the expedition → work through milestones → claim the Normandy.

I feel like we’re witnessing a subtle but important shift in the games industry, and it’s exactly the kind of story you don’t want to miss. When top developers from AAA studios walk away and start something smaller, sharper, and more creative, it signals a change in how games are made. This is a perfect example of the “AAA devs to indie startup” phenomenon, and Airlock Games is living proof.

The Founders and the Announcement

Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman, veterans who worked on high-profile projects like MultiVersus, officially launched Airlock Games on October 28, 2025. They’re self-funded, motivated by creative freedom, and determined to leave the constraints of AAA development behind. In their own words, they left AAA to rediscover the “wonderful, reckless creativity of more focused games” (Gamespot).

This is a textbook example of AAA devs to indie startup behavior. They’re taking experience from massive teams and long cycles and applying it to smaller, faster, and more experimental projects. It’s exactly the kind of story that resonates with both gamers and developers who follow the industry closely.

Why Leaving AAA Matters

AAA development is a grind. Massive teams, long production cycles, and constant oversight by publishers leave little room for experimentation. That’s why the move from AAA devs to indie startup is significant. It shows that even seasoned professionals are seeking environments where creative risks can thrive without the weight of a multi-million-dollar budget.

Airlock Games isn’t just about leaving AAA, it’s about embracing a different philosophy. They plan to focus on smaller games with shorter playtimes at lower price points. A clear pivot from traditional AAA titles (GamesPress). This is the first confirmed step in a trend of AAA devs to indie startup transitions that could influence how other veterans approach game development.

The First Project: What the Stars Forgot

Their debut project, What the Stars Forgot, is described as a horror-sci-fi simulation management game with retro 16-bit graphics. It’s a bold move that blends storytelling, strategy, and retro aesthetics in a way only a team of experienced AAA developers could execute effectively. (GamesPress)

The game will enter Steam early access later this year, with a Kickstarter campaign already underway. This allows early supporters to provide feedback, a process rarely possible with AAA titles. It’s a prime example of AAA devs to indie startup creativity, taking the expertise of large-scale projects and applying it to smaller, more agile development cycles.

The Industry Angle

So why does this matter beyond curiosity? Because this story reflects a trend: more AAA devs are leaving giant studios to explore indie avenues. Big-budget fatigue is real, and smaller, focused projects can deliver higher-quality experiences in less time. The Airlock Games announcement positions them as a case study in this shift, showing that AAA devs to indie startup moves are not just personal choices but potentially influential industry trends.

Gamers are also paying attention. There’s growing appetite for games that respect players’ time, offer unique experiences, and don’t rely on endless updates or monetization schemes. AAA devs to indie startup transitions, like Airlock Games, directly respond to that demand.

Why Gamers Should Care

For gamers, this story matters. The credibility factor alone is compelling: Fischer and Feldman have the experience to execute complex game mechanics and design choices that smaller, less-experienced teams might struggle with. But the appeal goes beyond credentials. Airlock Games’ approach is experimental, agile, and player-focused, qualities that are often missing in AAA releases.

The “AAA devs to indie startup” narrative is also inspiring. It reminds players and industry watchers that innovation often comes from smaller teams willing to take creative risks. Gamers who follow indie news, new studio announcements, or smaller project launches will find Airlock Games’ story particularly relevant.

Long-Term Implications

This is likely the start of a bigger movement. AAA devs to indie startup moves could become more common as developers look for creative freedom and shorter, more focused production cycles. Platforms like Steam, itch.io, and console indie programs make these ventures viable.

Airlock Games exemplifies how smaller studios with veteran leadership can influence the industry. The first project, What the Stars Forgot, may set the tone for the types of games these developers produce: focused, experimental, and accessible to a wider range of players. It’s a practical demonstration of how AAA devs to indie startup stories can reshape expectations.

The post AAA Devs to Indie Startup: Bold Moves, New Worlds first appeared on GamingFoundry.

Let’s be honest. I’m not usually impressed by corporate AI announcements because hype usually outpaces reality. The EA Stability AI partnership sounds flashy, but it also makes me nervous. This isn’t just a press release headline. It’s EA betting that generative AI in game development can actually improve games. I’m skeptical. Faster workflows and AI-powered game design tools might sound good for developers, but for gamers, this could easily lead to watered-down experiences.

Overview of the Partnership

Here’s the truth. The EA Stability AI partnership looks impressive, but the reality is murkier. EA and Stability AI claim they want to co-develop AI models and AI-powered game design tools to help developers work faster. But faster doesn’t automatically mean better. In fact, pushing generative AI in game development could easily prioritize speed and cost over creativity, leaving games that feel more formulaic and less inspired. This partnership might streamline workflows, but it also risks turning the magic of game design into a checklist of AI-generated assets.

Technological Innovations

Let’s not sugarcoat it. The tech behind this deal, Stable Diffusion and other generative models, is impressive on paper. 3D asset creation, texturing, and environmental design could happen in hours instead of weeks. But here’s the problem: when machines start dictating aesthetics and content, there’s a real danger that games will start to feel generic. AI-powered game design tools might make prototypes faster, but they can also rob designers of the experimentation and nuance that make games feel alive. In short, the tools that are supposed to enhance creativity might instead create a sterile, homogenized experience.

Impact on Game Development

This is where the hype collides with reality. The EA Stability AI partnership promises efficiency, but efficiency can be a double-edged sword. Generative AI in game development could cut down iteration time, but it might also push developers to rely on AI crutches rather than human creativity. Faster pipelines are great for the bottom line, but they may lead to worlds that feel “engineered” instead of designed with care. If you’re a gamer, this could mean more content, yes, but less soul in the games you actually love.

Industry Implications

Zooming out, the EA Stability AI partnership isn’t just about EA. It’s a warning sign for the industry. Other studios are watching and could adopt similar AI workflows, and soon generative AI in game development might become the standard. That sounds like progress, but it also risks commoditizing creativity. Games could become more uniform, and the artistry that makes titles memorable might get sidelined. This is exactly why my earlier concerns about AI in games still feel relevant. Speed and efficiency might come at a very real cost to the quality and soul of the games themselves.

Conclusion

So, where does this leave us? The EA Stability AI partnership is a clear marker: the future of game development is collaborative, hybrid, and AI-assisted. For gamers like me, it’s a mixed bag, exciting potential, but we’ll be watching closely to see if the games themselves actually feel better, or just faster to make. One thing’s for sure: generative AI in game development is no longer theoretical. The question now is whether it’ll truly unlock creativity or just churn out polished mediocrity faster.

Okay, so No Man’s Sky has done it again. Just over a month after the Voyagers update, Hello Games dropped the Breach Update. Honestly, it’s one of those updates that reminds you why this game still matters. It’s free (obviously), leans into that Halloween vibe, and-get this-it’s basically a scavenger hunt through a desolate universe where you get to build and tweak corvettes to your heart’s content.

What the Breach Expedition Actually Is

The Breach Expedition is about exploring a universe that feels… dead, but in a strangely compelling way. You’ll be hopping into the wreckage of abandoned corvettes, floating in zero‑gravity with a Multi-Tool laser in hand, and scavenging ship modules for your own corvette-building experiments. There’s even a mystery ship-the Fireship Arcadia-whose fate you uncover as you progress.

It’s spooky, yeah, but it also leans into the creative side of No Man’s Sky. The purple-star systems from Worlds Part II make a return here, with abyssal oceans, creepy creatures, and volatile gas giants. Basically, if you’re the kind of player who gets a thrill out of danger and discovery, this expedition is for you.

How to Start the New Expedition

Jump to the Anomaly and start the expedition there. You’ll start with a basic explorer-class ship, but the first phase of the expedition is all about building your own corvette. From there, it’s a mix of exploration, scavenging, and piecing together the coolest-looking ships you can dream up.

Rewards That Actually Feel Worth It

The expedition isn’t just spooky scenery; the rewards are solid. You get:

Posters: Event Horizon, Eternal Serpents, and Siren of the Stars, perfect for decorating your base if you’re the kind who cares about aesthetics.

Aeron Cowling & Diffuser: Bold, angular corvette modules that make your ship look dangerous in all the right ways.

Atlas-themed modules: Winglets, pillars, pyramids, because if you’re showing off allegiance to the crimson entity, you better go all in.

Aeron Drive & Blade: Build a bulky Atlas corvette or keep it sleek. Choice matters here.

Starship Trail: Crimson streaks for your exhaust, because why not.

It’s all very “Hello Games knows what we want” without feeling like they’re holding our hands.

Breach Update Patch Notes Highlights

This update isn’t just fluff. They’ve fixed a ton of stuff, like corvette snapping and collisions, some VR annoyances, and weird interior bugs, and added some quality-of-life upgrades. You can now slap a color palette across an entire corvette, which is a small thing, but it makes the ship-building process way smoother. They’ve also improved lighting, visuals, and performance for consoles, PC, and even the Switch.

Full list of Patch Notes is available here.

Big Respect to Hello Games

Honestly, I can’t overstate this: the team at Hello Games deserves praise. Nine years in, and they’re still adding massive free updates, supporting the game, and experimenting with the universe in ways few studios would risk. It’s rare to see this level of dedication in any game, let alone one that could’ve easily become stale years ago.

And Yeah, If You Want to Hit the Center of the Galaxy…

Don’t forget my guide on how to get to the center of the galaxy. The Breach expedition is great, but if you’re itching for that ultimate No Man’s Sky experience, you’re gonna want it.

The Breach Update is live now and will run for about three weeks. Whether you’re building the corvette of your dreams or just chasing the spookiest alien ocean, this update gives you a reason to dive back into the galaxy and actually care about it.

When I think about the future of games, one of the biggest shifts happening right now is AI in game development. It’s no longer a sci-fi fantasy. It’s real, it’s in production pipelines, and it’s forcing the industry to rethink how we design, build, and ship games. In this article, I want to walk through what this means: how generative AI in games is speeding things up, the question of whether AI can reduce game production time, how this shakes up roles (and fears of will AI replace game developers), and what it might mean for big titles like Grand Theft Auto VI.

Why the transformation matters

Production cycles for big games are longer than ever, budgets keep rising, and teams can stay in development limbo for years. Consequently, AI in game development begins to look like a lifeline. For example, a recent survey shows that over 79% of game developers view AI tools positively. Moreover, over half of studios are now using generative tools for art, narrative, or design workflows. In other words, the technology is moving from “nice to try” to “we have to adapt to keep up.”

What’s actually changing: tools, techniques, workflows

One of the biggest shifts is the rise of AI content creation for games. Studios now use generative AI in games to build visual assets, textures, audio, and even full levels. In 2025, about one in five new Steam releases disclosed some form of AI use. At the same time, AI is creeping into code and design. Automating NPC behavior, world-building, and repetitive QA testing. The result is clear: how AI speeds up game production is finally measurable. Some reports show that AI-assisted design cuts project time by roughly 20%. Faster assets, quicker testing, fewer bottlenecks. All of it pushes studios toward shorter, less risky production cycles.

Big names, subtle impact: the Grand Theft Auto angle

You may be wondering: how does this affect blockbuster stuff like Grand Theft Auto VI? While there’s no full public breakdown of “AI built this level” for GTA VI, it’s safe to assume major studios are quietly experimenting. With AI in game development becoming common, large franchises are under pressure to adopt or fall behind.
For example, as tools mature, features like smarter NPCs, dynamically generated dialogue, or environments built with procedural systems may push into these big-budget titles. That means the next GTA might not just be bigger, the production rhythm itself might change.

The flip side: will AI replace game developers?

Here’s where things get tricky. On one hand, the efficiencies brought by AI in game development are undeniable. On the other hand, developers are worried. According to the Game Developers Conference 2025 report, about 30% of respondents believe generative AI is hurting the industry.
There are fears of job displacement, especially junior roles, concerns about quality (can AI match human depth?), and ethical issues like intellectual-property and attribution. One senior voice in the industry said, “We should use generative AI to help people be faster at their jobs, not lose them.”
So yes, AI game design is gaining ground, but replacing creative talent wholesale? That seems far off, and many in the field seem to agree.

Practical use-cases

Here are a few concrete ways studios are already using these tools:

Mobile game studios are using AI to automate level design, allowing teams to release new content faster.

In Japan, over half of surveyed game companies rely on AI for tasks like visual asset creation and in-house engine support.

QA and iteration processes benefit from AI tools that reduce errors and speed up testing, showing exactly how AI speeds up game production.

What to watch and what it means for creators

Tool maturity vs. hype: Some industry veterans are skeptical. For example, one veteran said claims of “fully AI-generated game in a year” are overblown.

Creative authenticity: As generative AI becomes embedded, studios will need to decide how much they trust it with narrative, character, emotion, areas traditionally human.

Workforce shifts: While AI may free humans from grunt work, it also demands new skills: prompt-crafting, oversight of AI output, hybrid workflows.

Disclosure and player trust: Transparency around AI content (especially generative) is becoming more important. Some platforms now require disclosure if generative AI was used.

My take: what this means for the next 3-5 years

I believe that AI in game development will become the norm, not the exception. It won’t replace human creativity, at least not yet, but it will shift what humans do. Think fewer hours spent on dragging assets, more time spent iterating, more room for imaginative risk.
If developers embrace it, we could see faster production, more ambitious worlds, and smaller studios punching above their weight. If they resist, the studios that adapt may simply pull ahead by volume and speed.
And for players, this could mean more content, more frequent updates, and maybe even smarter worlds that respond to how you play.
