Why smaller games at PC Gaming Show 2025 matter

I feel like many players watch the big reveals and skip the quieter stuff. Truth be told, that habit often hides the best discoveries. PC Gaming Show 2025 brought several smaller projects that did not dominate headlines but still delivered fresh ideas. If you want a deeper look at how the event shapes the industry, you can also check my breakdown of why the PC Gaming Show Most Wanted list really matters. I want to spotlight a few of these quieter games so you can track them early.

Night Swarm brings fast roguelike action

Night Swarm showed real confidence during the showcase. It leans into top-down bullet-heaven chaos and rewards quick reactions. PC Gamer highlighted it in the official roundup, and it already offers a playable version on Steam. If you enjoy short, intense runs, Night Swarm deserves a spot on your wishlist.

SOL Shogunate mixes samurai culture with sci fi

SOL Shogunate caught my eye with its mix of samurai imagery and space opera elements. The reveal trailer offered stylized combat and a clear sense of identity. In my opinion, this genre blend could appeal to players tired of predictable formulas from bigger publishers.

Substructure creates a layered factory building experience

Substructure appeared during PC Gaming Show 2025 as a darker, moodier take on factory sims. You build above ground while uncovering a hidden world below the surface. That dual structure might interest strategy fans who want deeper systems without losing atmosphere.

Rogue Point adds heist humor to PvE FPS action

Rogue Point showed up with a lighthearted trailer that mixed FPS combat with chaotic heist planning. The tone felt playful, almost like the game wants you to break every rule during missions. If you want something less serious than the usual tactical shooters, Rogue Point looks promising.

Nutmeg turns football into a turn based card battle

Nutmeg surprised a lot of viewers. Instead of a real-time match, you play card duels that reflect the pace of football. It sounds odd, but it works. For players who love strategy more than twitch controls, Nutmeg offers a clever angle.

Why these games qualify as real under the radar picks

I feel like the biggest reason is simple. These titles skip massive budgets and chase interesting ideas instead. That usually means more risk and more personality. PC Gaming Show 2025 gave them a platform, but they still need early supporters who want something different. If you track these games now, you may find a new favorite long before the wider hype arrives.

How to follow hidden gems after PC Gaming Show 2025

Add them to your Steam wishlist. Developers update those pages often.

Check smaller gaming sites that cover indie announcements.

Watch for new demos during seasonal Steam festivals.

Look at how often studios post devlogs or community updates. Strong communication usually signals steady progress.

Final thoughts

In my opinion, the real magic of PC Gaming Show 2025 sits in these under the radar gems. They try new mechanics, new genres, and new styles without waiting for trends to validate them. If you want something fresh this year, start here.

The post The Most Exciting Hidden Games Revealed at PC Gaming Show 2025 first appeared on GamingFoundry.

So you heard the rumors? It’s real, Hytale early access has a date. As of November 28 2025 the developers at Hypixel Studios confirmed that Hytale will launch in Early Access on January 13 2026.

What “Hytale early access January 13 2026” means

When I say “early access”, I mean early. Hypixel went back to what they call a “legacy build”, the older version of the game they had before more ambitious engine rewrites by a previous publisher. That meant merging over 300 GitHub branches into a single playable build (yeah, that many).

Because of that history and rebuild, at launch, you should expect rough edges: bugs, placeholder content, unbalanced loot, and, in general, a rough but playable skeleton of what Hytale can become.

On the flip side, this gives modders, server owners and community creators an early shot at diving in, experimenting, building mods or custom servers, right from day one. The devs say creative/modding tools are “in a decent state” for that purpose.

Hytale pre order date and pricing explained

According to the announcement, for Hytale, pre-orders open on December 13 2025.

Pricing and editions vary. At least one report says the standard edition will cost around USD 19.99, with additional “supporter” or deluxe editions available, presumably offering cosmetic extras or “supporter” bonuses.

Why Hytale switched back to a legacy build

You might remember Hytale’s development was messy. The game changed hands. Under previous publisher (in recent years), engine rewrites, delays and cancellations piled up. Then earlier in 2025, developers reacquired Hytale and reclaimed control under Hypixel Studios again.

Now we’re getting a resurrected version with the original vision more or less intact, albeit on a stripped-down build. That means the “dream of Hytale”, the sandbox + RPG + creative/modding potential, might finally begin, even if it’s raw. I think this is a pragmatic, realistic restart.

For players, that means early adopters get to shape the game. Report bugs, give feedback, build mods, run servers, and contribute to what Hytale becomes. For watchers, it’s a chance to see if Hytale can rise from chaos, or fall again under weight of ambition and overdue polish.

What to expect from Hytale early access launch

Day-one will be rough. Don’t expect a polished game experience.

Core systems like exploration, building, combat are likely functional, but many systems (loot balance, polish, minigames) may be incomplete or rough.

Creative / modding tools will be available from start, high value for modders, server-owners, custom-content creators.

Over time, with community feedback and active development, Hytale has a shot at becoming much bigger than a “barebones early access”.

Who should pre-order (and who should wait)

If you love sandbox games, creative modding, building servers, and don’t mind bugs or unpolished features, pre-order early. Think of it like backing a Kickstarter: you want to shape the project from ground zero, not just consume a polished product.

If you expect something “done”, smooth, bug-free, wait. Use early access info and reviews from other players before buying. The team themselves admit this is “true early access”.

Final thoughts

I feel like January 13 2026 marks a new-chapter gamble for Hytale. It won’t hit day-one perfect, but it’s the earliest moment the community gets to dig in, mess around, maybe build the next big mod or server. For a project with this twisted history, that’s something.

If you ask me, prepare expectations for rough start, but keep hope. Hytale early access could be a messy beginning, or the foundation of something great. Either way, we’ll know soon enough.

The post Hytale early access returns with new hope first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like the whole HORSES banned from Steam situation is one of those rare indie stories that actually deserves attention. When a horror game about masked human horses gets blocked from the biggest PC storefront, you know something unusual happened. So here’s the short, useful version of what’s going on and why players are talking about it.

What is HORSES and why people talked about it

HORSES is a first person psychological horror game by Santa Ragione. The premise sounds simple at first. You spend two weeks working on a ranch. But instead of real horses, you’re surrounded by humans wearing horse masks who behave like livestock. It leans hard into discomfort, surreal symbolism and themes about power and exploitation.

The game was supposed to launch on December 2, 2025 on Epic Games Store, GOG, itch.io and Humble. Steam was not on that list. The reason is simple. HORSES banned from Steam became the headline long before the game even had a chance to open its store page.

Why HORSES was banned from Steam according to the developer

Santa Ragione submitted HORSES back in 2023. Right before the planned Steam reveal, Valve sent a short rejection notice. According to the developer, the message said the game contained themes or imagery Valve would not distribute. They got no details and no chance to appeal.

Valve’s automated policy references potential sexual content involving minors, even in unclear scenarios. Santa Ragione says no minors appear in the game and that HORSES is not pornographic. One early scene in a 2023 build included a child riding a masked adult. The team replaced the child with an adult woman, but Steam still rejected the game.

The frustrating part is that no one at Valve explained what part of the game still broke the rules. That leaves developers guessing, which feels like a bad system for anyone trying to create something unusual or symbolic. Part of why this turned into a story is that HORSES banned from Steam became a big example of how unclear content rules can punish indies who take creative risks.

How this Steam ban affects Santa Ragione and other indie devs

In my opinion, the toughest part of this whole situation is the financial hit. The studio invested around 100,000 USD into HORSES. Without Steam, which is still the biggest marketplace in PC gaming, the odds of recouping those costs drop a lot. The team said that if HORSES underperforms on the alternative stores, they may not survive as a studio.

And here’s the broader point. When a store as big as Steam can ban a game without explaining why, it creates a pretty dangerous precedent. Other devs might avoid serious themes, weird art styles or provocative symbolism just to stay safe. That slowly pushes indie games toward safer, more predictable ideas. It’s not great for players or for creativity.

Where you can still play HORSES

If you’re still curious, HORSES launches December 2 on Epic Games Store, GOG, itch.io and Humble Store. Steam is simply not an option unless Valve changes its stance, and that seems unlikely right now.

Truth be told, the HORSES banned from Steam story shows how fragile indie development can be when platform rules are vague or inconsistent. If you want to support unusual horror games or small teams who take creative risks, this might be one to keep an eye on. If you want a follow up piece on other games Steam has banned for similar reasons, I can draft that too.

The post HORSES banned from Steam – Valve leaves devs in the dark first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like every time I open Steam, I see another dozen releases fighting for attention. The term indie game oversaturation gets thrown around a lot, but the truth is pretty simple. According to Steam’s own public release numbers, we’ve seen a massive rise in new titles every single year. In 2023, more than 14,000 games launched on Steam compared to roughly 2800 in 2015, and the trend has kept climbing. This isn’t a matter of opinion. It’s the reality of an open marketplace where publishing is easier, cheaper, and faster.

For players, that means choice paralysis. For creators, it means discoverability nightmares. For me, it creates this weird tension where I know incredible games are coming out, but finding them feels like sifting through gravel. That’s the heart of indie game oversaturation right now.

Game releases each year provided by SteamDB.info

Why so many indie games release every year

When you break it down, none of this happened overnight. Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, and even smaller tools like GameMaker have lowered the barrier to entry. Steam Direct replaced the old Greenlight model, which means anyone with a small fee can publish. Because of that, the number of solo devs and micro teams exploded. Newzoo and GDC surveys show more than half of all developers today are working on independent or small-team projects.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. Creativity is booming, and we’re seeing genres evolve faster than ever. But combine low entry barriers, global teams, and a storefront that publishes new titles every hour, and you get indie game oversaturation as a predictable result.

In only 10 years from 2014 to 2024 indie releases on steam increased by 802%

How to find good indie games without drowning in noise

This is the question players keep searching for. Searches like “how to find good indie games”, “underrated indie games”, and “best indie games steam” all show strong interest because people genuinely struggle with discovery.

My personal trick is to follow reliable curators. Not influencers chasing trends, but outlets that have built a track record for thoughtful picks. Steam’s user tags also help more than people admit. If you sort by tag relevance instead of popularity, you can filter out shovelware pretty fast. It’s not perfect, but when indie game oversaturation feels overwhelming, any filtering tool is a lifesaver.

Why so many indie games struggle with visibility

Discoverability is brutal. Steam’s algorithm favors games with strong early traction. That means wishlists, day-one sales, and retention metrics. Smaller devs rarely get the spotlight unless they already have a community or viral moment. Industry data from Steamworks documentation confirms that visibility rounds are heavily tied to performance signals, not just quality.

So a polished indie RPG can drop on the same day as ten asset flips and never get seen. It’s not malice. It’s automation. And once you accept that automation dominates curation, the whole indie game oversaturation problem becomes easier to understand.

More than half of indie games (around 52%) didn’t get than 10 reviews in 2025 and only 12% of new Indie games got more than 100.

How players can support the games they actually love

If you want good indie games to rise above the noise, the solution is boring but effective. Wishlisting helps. Reviews help. Sharing helps. Even a single sentence review nudges the algorithm a little. And honestly, in my opinion, that’s empowering. You get to play a small part in defeating indie game oversaturation by lifting up the projects that deserve attention.

I digress. The point is that none of this is hopeless. In fact, this flood of titles means the best era for indie creativity is happening right now. You just need a better compass to navigate it.

Takeaway: oversaturation is real, but not all bad

So here’s my clean takeaway. Indie game oversaturation is a real, measurable trend driven by easier tools, cheaper distribution, and an exploding global dev scene. But it also means we’re seeing more innovation, more niche genres, and more personal passion projects than ever before.

If you’re willing to dig a bit, follow the right channels, and use the right filters, you’ll find gems that bigger studios wouldn’t dare make. And that alone makes the chaos worth it for me.

The post Indie Game Oversaturation: What’s Really Causing the Flood of New Releases first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like the more the industry expands, the harder it gets to answer a simple question: is early access still worth it in 2025? Truth be told, players keep Googling things like “should you buy early access games”, “is early access safe”, and “why early access fails”, because the model still feels like a gamble. Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s a mess.

So here’s the clean, no-nonsense version of what you’re actually getting into this year.

—

Why Early Access Still Exists in 2025

In my opinion, early access isn’t just an indie lifeline anymore. It’s become a normal release strategy for projects that want community feedback, long-term testing, or budget stability. The problem is that the term covers both near-finished games and barely functional prototypes. What worked in 2015 doesn’t always work now.

Which means you need a sharper filter.

Number of early access releases on steam each year

—

The Real Pros of Early Access (5 Clear Wins)

1. You get to play anticipated games earlier.
This is the simple appeal. If you want in before the hype peaks, early access gives you that. People searching “best early access games 2025” are chasing this exact feeling.

2. Often cheaper than the final launch price.
Not guaranteed, but common enough to matter. If you buy early, you can sometimes save real money compared to full release.

3. Your feedback can shape development.
Good teams listen. If you care about balance, UI changes, or quality-of-life features, early access gives you a voice.

4. Strong communities form early and stay active.
For survival games, roguelites, and co-op titles, early access often creates the most passionate player base. If you like active Discord groups or modding scenes, this is where they start.

5. You can refund if the game doesn’t match its page.
Steam’s refund policy covers early access. People search “can you refund early access” constantly, so I’ll keep it simple. If it runs poorly or feels misleading, refund it. No guilt.

—

The Cons Nobody Likes to Admit (5 Real Risks)

1. Some games never reach 1.0.
This is the big one. Search patterns like “early access abandoned” exist for a reason. Projects stall. Budgets evaporate. Teams quit.

2. Stability can be frustratingly inconsistent.
Crashes, memory leaks, broken saves. If you’re sensitive to performance issues, early access can be rough.

3. Content gaps can make a promising game feel empty.
The core loop might be great, but missing biomes, missing story, or missing progression can kill the excitement fast.

4. Roadmaps are often vague or unrealistic.
If a game promises everything and delivers nothing, you’re stuck waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

5. Updates can slow down without warning.
Players constantly search “is X still being updated” because patch momentum matters. Long gaps in communication are usually a bad sign.

Duration of Time Development for Games in Steam Early Access

—

When You Should Actually Wait Instead of Buying

I’m not an expert, but there are a few cases where I always recommend waiting.

1. When the devs promise rapid updates but have no shipped track record.
New teams aren’t bad, but they’re unpredictable.

2. When the content is closer to a tech demo than a game.
If buyers say “just wait six months”, I listen.

3. When performance is unstable on mid-range hardware.
Search intent spikes around “can X run on my PC”, so if early benchmarks look rough, waiting pays off.

—

So How Do You Tell If an Early Access Game Is Worth Buying?

I’m not an expert, but here’s what I actually check.

A clear, realistic roadmap.

Consistent updates, not promises.

Honest store-page descriptions.

Real gameplay depth in the current build.

Developers who communicate like humans, not marketers.

If a game ticks these boxes, it’s usually safe. If it doesn’t, I wait.

<img decoding="async" srcset="https://thegamingfoundry.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/time-1024x611.webp ,https://thegamingfoundry.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/time.webp 780w, https://thegamingfoundry.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/time.webp 360w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 480px) 150px" src="https://thegamingfoundry.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/time-1024x611.webp" alt="Bar chart showing time spent in development for some of the most popular early access titles. Some of them are still not fully released.

—

Refunds Are Your Safety Net, So Use Them

Most players forget this. Steam’s refund policy exists for early access too. If the game runs poorly or feels misleading, refund it. You’re not being rude. You’re being a smart buyer.

Searching “can you refund early access” is common enough that it’s worth saying this clearly: yes, you can.

—

So Is Early Access Worth It in 2025?

Sometimes. Not always. It comes down to your tolerance for unfinished content and how badly you want to be an early player. Early access can be a great deal when the project is stable, updated often, and clear about its goals. It’s a gamble when the foundation is shaky.

For me, the rule is simple. Buy early access only if you would still enjoy the game as it is today. Not as it might be later.

The post Early Access in 2025: A Simple Guide to Making Safe Purchases first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like every few years the gaming world gives us a comeback story we don’t see coming. If you’ve been following Hytale at all, you probably remember when I covered the collapse in “Hytale Canceled: The Most Hyped Indie Game That Never Happened.” Back then, the whole thing looked final. Riot stepped back, the ambitious cross-platform engine stalled, and the project went quiet long enough for most people to assume the worst.

So when the founders suddenly announced that Hytale development had resumed and that the game is fully independent again under Hypixel Studios, it feels surreal. But the facts are confirmed, and the roadmap finally makes sense in a way it hasn’t for years.

The first big confirmation is that Hypixel’s co-founders reacquired Hytale from Riot Games and took it completely independent. Players who search “Hypixel reacquires Hytale” or “Hytale revival 2025” usually want to know if this is just a tiny shell team or the real deal. It’s real. Dozens of former developers are already rehired, and the team plans to keep expanding as the project ramps up.

Funding is personal now. The founders are backing the next decade of development themselves, which removes the corporate overhead and gives Hytale room to grow at a pace that makes sense for the game rather than a publisher’s calendar.

Truth be told, it’s the clearest indicator that this isn’t a symbolic revival. It’s a full return to the original vision for Hytale.

—

Why the Hytale Engine Change Matters

A lot of confusion around the project came from the long detour into a new cross-platform engine built in C++. That version aimed to support PC, consoles, and more, but it ballooned into a tech project that overshadowed actual gameplay development. In short, it was years away from delivering anything players could test.

The revival changes that entirely. The team confirmed they are returning to the Legacy Engine, the earlier C#/Java hybrid that powered the original world generation demos, early combat systems, and modding tools. Anyone searching “Hytale legacy engine” or “Hytale engine change” should know that this rollback is less of a step backward and more of a practical reset. The Legacy Engine is stable enough to ship content and flexible enough for modders, which makes it a crucial foundation for early access.

For players who remember the smooth animation sets, procedural zones, and creative tools shown years ago, this explains why those systems can finally move forward again.

—

What Hytale Early Access Actually Looks Like

The most common question is simple. “What will Hytale early access include?” The team has shared clear details, and they finally feel grounded.

Early access will launch on Windows first. Other platforms will be explored, but the initial priority is a stable PC build that focuses on core systems rather than stretching too thin.

Confirmed early access content includes:

Exploration Mode, the open-world sandbox design that first hooked players

Creative Mode, giving builders access to tools and asset editing right away

Full modding support from day one, with APIs and creation tools baked in

This early access build will be raw. Expect bugs, placeholder systems, unfinished biomes, and balance issues. The developers have been upfront about this, encouraging players to treat early access as a collaborative process rather than an almost-finished game. Anyone searching for “Hytale early access plans” or “Hytale early access expectations” will probably appreciate that honesty.

Adventure Mode and minigames will come later, once the foundation is stable. In my opinion, this phased approach is smarter than trying to cram everything into day one.

—

Modding Support and Custom Servers Return to the Spotlight

Modding was always the beating heart of Hytale’s identity. Searches like “Hytale modding support” and “Hytale custom servers” keep rising because the game originally promised an ecosystem built around creators, from animated NPC scripting to handcrafted worlds.

That vision is still intact. The team confirmed that modding is central to the game’s long-term health, not an optional extra. Tools for items, animations, world generation, and server-side logic are part of the early access plan. They even want to provide server source access in the future once they work through legal and technical hurdles.

For a sandbox game that hopes to survive for a decade, this is the most important piece. A strong modding pipeline means the community can experiment, build minigames, create adventures, and shape the world long before the official content catches up.

—

Why This Revival Actually Feels Realistic

You can look up “why Hytale development was resumed” and find a lot of speculation. The reality is much simpler. The founders still believe in the game, and they finally have both the legal freedom and the technical clarity to move ahead.

The switch back to the Legacy Engine cuts years off development time. Rehiring the original team restores continuity. The early access strategy grounds expectations. And putting modding at the center means the community can help define what Hytale becomes instead of waiting for perfect patches.

In my opinion, this is the first time since 2020 that the project feels like it has real momentum behind it.

—

Final Thoughts

Hytale development resumed, and the revival is more substantial than anyone expected. Hypixel reacquires Hytale, rebuilds the team, confirms the early access roadmap, returns to the legacy engine, and doubles down on modding support. If you followed the story all the way through cancellation and disappointment, this is probably the most hopeful update you’ve seen in years.

The post Hytale Comeback What the New Team Confirmed first appeared on GamingFoundry.

I feel like we’re witnessing a subtle but important shift in the games industry, and it’s exactly the kind of story you don’t want to miss. When top developers from AAA studios walk away and start something smaller, sharper, and more creative, it signals a change in how games are made. This is a perfect example of the “AAA devs to indie startup” phenomenon, and Airlock Games is living proof.

The Founders and the Announcement

Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman, veterans who worked on high-profile projects like MultiVersus, officially launched Airlock Games on October 28, 2025. They’re self-funded, motivated by creative freedom, and determined to leave the constraints of AAA development behind. In their own words, they left AAA to rediscover the “wonderful, reckless creativity of more focused games” (Gamespot).

This is a textbook example of AAA devs to indie startup behavior. They’re taking experience from massive teams and long cycles and applying it to smaller, faster, and more experimental projects. It’s exactly the kind of story that resonates with both gamers and developers who follow the industry closely.

Why Leaving AAA Matters

AAA development is a grind. Massive teams, long production cycles, and constant oversight by publishers leave little room for experimentation. That’s why the move from AAA devs to indie startup is significant. It shows that even seasoned professionals are seeking environments where creative risks can thrive without the weight of a multi-million-dollar budget.

Airlock Games isn’t just about leaving AAA, it’s about embracing a different philosophy. They plan to focus on smaller games with shorter playtimes at lower price points. A clear pivot from traditional AAA titles (GamesPress). This is the first confirmed step in a trend of AAA devs to indie startup transitions that could influence how other veterans approach game development.

The First Project: What the Stars Forgot

Their debut project, What the Stars Forgot, is described as a horror-sci-fi simulation management game with retro 16-bit graphics. It’s a bold move that blends storytelling, strategy, and retro aesthetics in a way only a team of experienced AAA developers could execute effectively. (GamesPress)

The game will enter Steam early access later this year, with a Kickstarter campaign already underway. This allows early supporters to provide feedback, a process rarely possible with AAA titles. It’s a prime example of AAA devs to indie startup creativity, taking the expertise of large-scale projects and applying it to smaller, more agile development cycles.

The Industry Angle

So why does this matter beyond curiosity? Because this story reflects a trend: more AAA devs are leaving giant studios to explore indie avenues. Big-budget fatigue is real, and smaller, focused projects can deliver higher-quality experiences in less time. The Airlock Games announcement positions them as a case study in this shift, showing that AAA devs to indie startup moves are not just personal choices but potentially influential industry trends.

Gamers are also paying attention. There’s growing appetite for games that respect players’ time, offer unique experiences, and don’t rely on endless updates or monetization schemes. AAA devs to indie startup transitions, like Airlock Games, directly respond to that demand.

Why Gamers Should Care

For gamers, this story matters. The credibility factor alone is compelling: Fischer and Feldman have the experience to execute complex game mechanics and design choices that smaller, less-experienced teams might struggle with. But the appeal goes beyond credentials. Airlock Games’ approach is experimental, agile, and player-focused, qualities that are often missing in AAA releases.

The “AAA devs to indie startup” narrative is also inspiring. It reminds players and industry watchers that innovation often comes from smaller teams willing to take creative risks. Gamers who follow indie news, new studio announcements, or smaller project launches will find Airlock Games’ story particularly relevant.

Long-Term Implications

This is likely the start of a bigger movement. AAA devs to indie startup moves could become more common as developers look for creative freedom and shorter, more focused production cycles. Platforms like Steam, itch.io, and console indie programs make these ventures viable.

Airlock Games exemplifies how smaller studios with veteran leadership can influence the industry. The first project, What the Stars Forgot, may set the tone for the types of games these developers produce: focused, experimental, and accessible to a wider range of players. It’s a practical demonstration of how AAA devs to indie startup stories can reshape expectations.

The post AAA Devs to Indie Startup: Bold Moves, New Worlds first appeared on GamingFoundry.

Yacht Club Games just announced a Mina the Hollower delay. Fans feel disappointed, sure, but honestly, the extra time might actually help the game. The Shovel Knight team is building a top-down, Zelda-inspired action-adventure, and hype has been building for months. Any delay feels dramatic, but extra time could make a real difference.

This delay isn’t a problem; it gives the developers a chance to polish gameplay, fix awkward mechanics, and tighten pacing. Early previews show tight controls, clever puzzles, and that classic Game Boy vibe that makes retro action-adventures feel fresh. Rushing the game could have caused bugs, broken mechanics, or frustrating levels. Slowing down lets Yacht Club deliver a smarter, smoother experience when it finally launches.

The Mina the Hollower delay has already sparked discussions online. Fans speculate about new boss fights, level tweaks, and visual upgrades. The hype hasn’t faded; the extra time gives players a reason to get excited instead of frustrated. Rarely does a delay feel like a gift, but this one might just be.

Yacht Club still plans to release the game in late 2025. If you follow indie titles or track October 2025 game releases, this one is worth watching. The Mina the Hollower delay may sting at first, but it could produce one of the best indie action-adventures this year. Personally, I’m curious to see if the wait pays off or if it’s just another shiny trailer and a long pause.

Why Was Hytale Canceled?

Hypixel Studios started working on Hytale in 2015. The team aimed to create a game that combined Minecraft-style creativity with RPG mechanics. Over time, their vision became too large. As a result, development slowed and delays piled up.

The team faced a tough choice. They could remove major features, delay the game again, or end the project. In the end, they chose to cancel Hytale rather than release something unfinished. According to the team, cutting corners would have compromised the original vision.

Riot Games Ends Support

In 2020, Riot Games acquired Hypixel Studios after Hytale’s trailer went viral. For a while, Riot’s backing gave fans hope. However, progress still moved slowly, and key development goals remained out of reach.

Now, with Hytale canceled, Riot also plans to shut down Hypixel Studios. The company will support affected employees with severance and job assistance. Despite the disappointment, the studio expressed gratitude for the support they received during the project.

What Happens to the Hypixel Server?

Although Hytale is canceled, the Hypixel Minecraft server will stay online. It runs independently from Hypixel Studios and remains one of the most active servers in the world. For many fans, this is a silver lining in an otherwise sad announcement.

YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS: Try These Games Like Stardew Valley, If You Love Cozy Games

Lessons from the Hytale Canceled Story

Ambition needs balance. The team had big ideas, but the scope grew too large to manage.

Timing matters. What felt fresh in 2018 struggled to hold attention in 2025.

Honesty builds trust. Canceling Hytale was hard, but the team communicated openly.

Game development is complex. Even well-funded projects can fall short if vision and execution don’t align.

What’s Next for the Team?

With Hytale canceled and the studio shutting down, team members will move on to new roles. Riot Games will help with job placement. Many of these developers may bring their experience to other projects in the future.

Although the game will never release, its ideas and tools may live on elsewhere. The team also hinted that their work might inspire others in the industry.

From the creators of Shovel Knight, Mina the Hollower delivers a beautifully dark, retro-inspired adventure that seamlessly blends 8-bit visuals with modern design. In this game, you play as Mina, a whip-wielding Hollower on a mission to save a cursed island teetering on the edge of ruin. Armed with her signature weapon and a growing arsenal of sidearms and trinkets, she’ll burrow, leap, and lash her way through a richly interconnected world.

What truly makes this demo stand out from the crowd is its confident fusion of old-school aesthetics and new-school precision. While the art style pays homage to the Game Boy Color, every animation, sound cue, and boss fight feels handcrafted and fresh.

Therefore, it’s a must-play for fans of Zelda II, Castlevania, or any game where combat, exploration, and style walk hand in hand. With tight mechanics, mysterious lore, and a hauntingly good soundtrack, Mina the Hollower doesn’t just hit the nostalgia nerve, it elevates it.

Genre: Side-Scrolling Action Platformer

Release Date: 31 Jul 2025

A new era begins for Ninja Gaiden with Ragebound, a side-scrolling reboot from the team behind Blasphemous. Rather than being just a throwback, it cleverly fuses the fast-paced, punishing gameplay of 8-bit classics with the stylish intensity of modern 3D entries.

Set in a reimagined universe, the story follows Kenji Mozu, a young ninja trained by Ryu Hayabusa, as he battles to protect Hayabusa Village from a demonic invasion. Alongside him is Kumori, a deadly assassin with her own secrets. Together, they form a fragile alliance that defies generations of rivalry, unleashing devastating Ninja Fusion attacks to survive a rising darkness.

What truly makes Ragebound stand out in the Steam Next Fest 2025 lineup is its mix of modern pixel art, razor-sharp controls, and brutal combat. Although it’s easy to pick up, it offers deep mastery for long-time fans. Ultimately, the demo delivers fluid action, responsive mechanics, and enough challenge to leave a mark, exactly what a Ninja Gaiden revival should be.

Word Play isn’t just about spelling; it’s about thinking ahead. In this clever word-based strategy game, each word you create earns points and upgrades. However, every action uses a limited “play,” so efficiency matters.

What makes it stand out is how it layers systems. You can modify tiles and upgrade letters into rare forms like Diamond or Potion. Plus, shifting rule sets change how each round plays out. There are even tricky challenge modes and a daily puzzle to keep things fresh.

Whether you love word games or want to exercise your brain in a new way, Word Play is more than it seems. It’s highly replayable and full of surprises.

If you’re looking for something low-stress and full of charm, Gourdlets Together is exactly that. Set in a whimsical world of friendly vegetable folk, this cozy multiplayer game invites you to design and decorate your own island. You can also fish with friends and simply enjoy the calm.

What makes this demo shine in Steam Next Fest 2025 is its relaxed pace and social focus. For example, you can visit friends’ islands, customize your own with cute buildings and decorations, and spend your fishing profits on upgrades. These upgrades make your island feel even more like home.

It’s not trying to challenge you; instead, it’s here to help you unwind. So, if you loved games like Animal Crossing or Palia, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Discounty may look like a cozy retail sim on the surface, but there’s much more brewing behind the freezer aisle. Set in the quirky harbour town of Blomkest, you’re tasked with running the local discount supermarket left to you by your mysteriously absent aunt. At first, it’s simple, stock shelves, ring up customers, and tidy the floor. However, soon you’ll juggle trade deals, local politics, and a growing web of small-town drama.

What makes Discounty stand out from other demos is its mix of detailed shop management and branching narrative. As you expand your store, you’ll also shape relationships with the townsfolk. This means building trust or stepping on toes for profit. The charm lies in the balance: make the store inviting, keep customers happy, and decide whether to heal or further fracture Blomkest’s fragile community.

It’s equal parts business sim and story-driven adventure. Overall, it might be one of the most heartfelt and slyly clever demos of the festival.
